Cultural Awareness Training

This interactive training is delivered by Sadia Sultan, Senior Engagement and Development Officer at Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF) and MBACP Counsellor. Sadia leads on women’s health, youth support and community based mental health initiatives, alongside her therapeutic work with clients from a wide range of ethnic and faith based backgrounds. She brings a practical, grounded and experience-led understanding of how culture and identity shape wellbeing.
The training is designed for anyone who wants to understand how to support the mental health of people from ethnic and faith based communities with sensitivity and confidence. Whether you work in health, education, community services or a support role, the session helps you recognise how culture, faith and identity influence the way people seek help and express distress.
You will explore how beliefs, values and communication styles shape trust, engagement and the overall experience of support. The session offers practical guidance so you can respond in ways that feel respectful and avoid unintentional barriers.

This personalised session offers space to explore specific situations, reflect on your work and build confidence in supporting people from ethnic and faith based communities. It is helpful for practitioners, volunteers, community workers or anyone who wants guidance that is tailored to their own setting.
Your session will be delivered by Sadia Sultan, Senior Engagement and Development Lead at Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF) and MBACP Counsellor.
Sadia has extensive experience across women’s health, youth support and community based mental health projects. She works with people from a wide range of ethnic and faith based backgrounds and supports project leads with co production, planning and culturally appropriate service delivery across Surrey.
These sessions offer a realistic and grounded understanding of how culture and faith influence wellbeing and how you can adapt your approach in a way that feels respectful and effective.
